Bela grinned widely as she loosed another arrow. “That’s forty seven. How many’ve you got?” She turned to see Jo, sitting on a pile of dead orcs, her knife stuck in one’s skull.

“Forty eight,” she answered, barely concealing her glee at the affronted look on Bela’s face.

With a “hmph,” Bela shot an arrow at the orc below Jo. “Now we’re even.”

“That one was already dead!”

“Obviously not. It was still twitching.”

“Yeah,” Jo huffed. “Because my knife is embedded in its nervous system!”
